Great News Everybody! Melburg Or Bust now has a data and a venue! I can now announce that Melburg Or Bust will be held at Monash University Clayton on Febuary 2 2008.  there will be space for approximately 300 cars plus displays and demonstrations from some of the coolest custom and restoration houses around.

10/8/2007

Well the news today isn't quite as exiting as I had hoped it would be. I had my meeting with admin and all went very well, but there are still some details to be confirmed with security before I can announce the details to the world, so stay tuned, I am expecting to have final clearance within a week. :D

1/8/2007

As you will probably have noticed a fair bit of the website isnt up and running at the moment.  this will change rapidly as my website buildign skills are a little rusty and some of the information to some simply isn't available yet. At the moment I am just waiting on the final meeting with the owners of the venue before I can announce the location and date, but I can say for now that it is a HUGE venue, with enough space for over 400 display vehicles plus heaps of room for other displays and demonstrations. On the demonstration front, I currently have a Tiki carver who will be doing some demonstrating, and I am looking for a pinstriper and a whitewaller who would be willing to donate some time to do demos as well, or if you can think of anything may make for an interesting demonstration please let me know!

You will see above that there is 3 slots for Featured Rides, and I am encouraging anyone that pre-books for the show to include a pic of their ride and just a few details, so that I can display your ride proudly on the Show Stoppers page and possibly it can make it up into the Featured rides as well.

The Idea for this show came about out of frustration really, as well as a realisation.  If we look back to the 50s/60s and consider how car customising really started, we realise that it was young people, buying cheap cars that were 20-40 years old as their first/second/early mode of transport and modifying these vehicles, often doing all of the work themselves and often on a tight budget, they were lowering, repainting, smoothing, re-powering, doing whatever they could to make the vehicles as good as possible. Now if you fast-foward to today alot of custom car shows are organised and aimed at the same group of people, now entering their 60s and 70s, still building cars based on the same vehicles that they were 50 years ago but now those vehicles are no longer affordable nor easy to come by.

What is exiting now though is that there is a new generation of people who have bucked the new-car buying trend and are doing what their fathers and grandfathers before them did, they are in their teens, 20s and 30s and purchasing cars that are relatively cheap, vehicles that are 20 - 40 years old, and using many similar methods to make these vehicles as good as they can be. This is what this show is about.  Melburg or Bust was created because I am sick of being too young, having too small an engine, too many alterations from stock, wrong make etc. etc. I wanted to see a car show which celebrated individuality. at Melburg Or Bust there will be no discrimination between car make, model, size, style. Whether you drive a slammed and smoothed Commer Van, a Rat-look VW Beetle, a dechromed Mk1 Ford Cortina, a jacked up Holden HQ Overlander, a matt black Valiant VC wagon with red rims or a clean stock Volvo 122S Amazon, If it has a chrome bumper (or had one) and your proud to be driving it then we want to see it at the show!

I would like to say a big thanks to Aussieveedubbers.com for proudly hosting this website
